About Gilman Event Hall

Our Story

Gilman Event Hall has a rich history in the downtown Chattanooga area. Our building was once home to the factory and sales offices of the Chattanooga-founded Gilman Paint and Varnish Company, which moved its operations from Market Street to Eighth and Pine Streets in 1937. Formerly a furniture store, the space was refitted to allow for paint production and sales.

A large neon “Gilman Paint” sign hung outside the second and third floors, and the words, “This is Gilman’s New Store. Gilman Paint – quality price, comfort, air-conditioned, and free parking while shopping at our store” were splashed across the side of the building. There was underground parking – via a ramp leading down into the basement – a novelty at the time. There was even valet parking.

The May 3, 1911, edition of the Chattanooga Times stated, “There are no better paints made anywhere,” and we feel that we uphold that tradition with the experience we provide.

Gilman Event Hall celebrates our industrial roots with a factory-style design featuring expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed brick walls and hardwood floors. We also uphold the Gilman commitment to quality, affordability and putting the customer first.
